What do we do?

The Hawkinge Youth Work Team have been in place since November 2006. The team is based in the Community Office and run events and activities and supports the youth group One Voice.

We currently work on several sessions that create a safe environment for young people to contact us and enjoy the activities provided. We also work out in the community doing detached Youth Work which is where we walk around making contact with groups that are not currently attending any of our Youth Work sessions. We do this by encouraging work with young people to create maximum space for their social education and personal development. Discussing issues around education, training, relationships and positive role models.

We actively involve young people to participate in the work and decision making in the development of the project by working face to face with young people. This allows us to ensure that the young people have a say when it comes to any issues they face within the community and the projects that they feel could help support our work.

We work with young people to design and implement high quality programmes of activities and issue based work, such as the summer programme, drugs and alcohol workshops. We actively promote equality and diversity within the project and the community through the sessions that we deliver to young people.
