"A Hawkinge where local people feel part of one community and are empowered to participate in local decision-making "
Background
Current estimations show 6,000 residents live in Hawkinge in a mix of new and old properties. By 2011, it is estimated that the population will be home to around 7,500. Research found there was limited use of community buildings in Hawkinge and limited joint working between local groups and organisations.
There was no base for public service providers to work from, limited opportunities to take part in local decision making and no local support into employment.
In 2004, a high number of residents told us that they welcomed opportunities for community events, sports and fun days as a means of achieving community cohesion. There are many local clubs and groups in Hawkinge and our support for them over the last two years has helped to raise their profile and increase their capacity for new members, activities and events.

- Supported Hawkinge Community Events Group in organising various events including the annual Hawkinge Community Fun Day
